Because Chloroquine is cheap, abundant and low risk for short term dosage, it would be ideal as a single pill/weekly dose application to all contacts or people with cold like symptoms. Its about disease modification, not transmission prevention. To prevent malaria, chloroquine tablets must be taken before, during, and after travel to a malaria zone. When treating the condition in adults, chloroquine is usually taken twice a day for one day and then once a day for two more days. A child's chloroquine dosage will be determined by his or her weight. For treatment of acute attacks of malaria in adults, one dose is usually taken right away, followed by half the dose 6 to 8 hours later and then half the dose once a day for the next 2 days. For prevention and treatment of malaria in infants and children, the amount of chloroquine phosphate is based on the child's weight.

For all uses of chloroquine: WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.
