Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

If it made your psoriasis worse, did your psoriasis get back to its pre-Plaquenil state after you stopped the Plaquenil? I'm considering Plaquenil for my next drug to try. I have PsA but also have Sjogren's Syndrome, and Plaquenil works well for many with Sjogren's Syndrome. Before using Plaquenil, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have psoriasis, porphyria, liver disease, alcoholism, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase G-6-PD deficiency. Take Plaquenil for the full prescribed length of time for malaria. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. I, too, have PSA and the spondylitis type. I am currently on Plaquenil for the PSA as it works for my fingers and have been on Sulfasalazine for three weeks and am up to the 2 pills twice a day for the last few days for my SI joint. I work full time and try to get up and walk around or do something physical at least every two hours or I lock up and its ridiculous.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

Plaquenil - Mar 27, 2013 My doctor started me on plaquenil in combination with minocycline for my first round of treatment. I know minocycline is an antibiotic related to doxycycline, yet I looked plaquenil up and found that it is a DMARD, used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
