    • If you are allergic to sulfa drugs does this mean you can't..

The Plaquenil and sulfasalazine allergies manifested exactly the same way, though the sulfa reaction was a bit more severe. I'm also allergic to the sulfonomide, erythromycin, so I think it's fair to say that anything related to sulfa drugs is off the menu. I'm on prednisone and extra antihistamines for two weeks to get things under control. Feb 17, 2009 I just wanted to let you know that I am highly allergic to sulfa drugs and have been on plaquenil for almost 8 years with no problems at all. I did accidentally take a sulfa drug about 5 years ago and still had the horrible reaction so know I'm still allergic even while being on plaquenil. If I have a sulfa allergy from Bactrim, can I take these other drugs? Here’s a list of common sulfa drugs that I get asked about a lot from patients who have had allergic reactions to Bactrim. If you’ve had an allergic reaction to Bactrim, you do not need to routinely avoid these medications, even though they are technically sulfonamide.
