Hydroxychloroquine is available as the brand-name drug Plaquenil. Generic drugs usually cost less than the brand-name version. Hydroxychloroquine may be used as part of a combination therapy.

Hydroxychloroquine Interactions Avoid taking an antacid or Kaopectate kaolin-pectin within 4 hours before or after you take hydroxychloroquine. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to. Prednisone is a bone killer as I’m paying the price 25 years later, but I was pretty pain free all those years! No hair loss and plaquenil has not affected my eyes other than dry eyes. Keep a diary of your meds. I have been on prednisone for 15 months and am down to 5 mg. I cannot seem to get below that dose without having a flate. My rheumatologist has started me on Plaquenil and has said this should help me get off the prednisone. He said he would rather see me on Plaquenil instead of prednisone due to less side effects of the Plaquenil.

Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. It isn’t fully understood how this drug works to treat lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis. That means you may need to take it with other drugs. It treats malaria by killing the parasites that cause the disease.

Although prednisone rarely has a direct interaction with other medications, there is an increased risk of infection when combining prednisone with other medications that affect your immune system. Additionally, when taking prednisone with NSAIDs such as naproxen or ibuprofen, there can be an increased risk of stomach ulcers. Digoxin, cyclosporine, and certain beta blockers may cause drug interactions with hydroxychloroquine. This eMedTV segment explores what may happen if these drugs are taken with hydroxychloroquine and lists other drugs that may cause an interaction. If you take medications such as estrogens or barbiturates with prednisone, drug interactions may potentially occur. These interactions can increase your risk of side effects, affect the level of prednisone in your blood, or decrease the effectiveness of some medications.

Chloroquine inhibits autophagic flux by decreasing. Macroautophagy/autophagy is a conserved transport pathway where targeted structures are sequestered by phagophores, which mature into autophagosomes, and then delivered into lysosomes for degradation. Autophagy is involved in the pathophysiology of numerous diseases and its modulation is beneficial for the outcome of numerous specific diseases.

Going off Plaquenil - and starting again The heartburn/upper gi upset is horrible on plaquenil for me. But I too can't stand the fatigue/joint pain and I know if I give it some more time, plaquenil may be of great help to me. I took only 200 last Monday night and it gave me nasty heartburn.
